We sang The Cranberries' Zombie in church the other week. This is a song about protesting war and we followed it up with the song "More Love, more Power, more of You in my life". It was quite effective. This weekend the song has been stuck in my head.
Another mother's breakin'
Heart is taking over
When the vi'lence causes silence
We must be mistaken
When the violence causes silence... what a powerful line. Those of you who have been following my story from the beginning know bits of the violence that was committed against me. And now there is silence. When the violence causes silence we must be mistaken.
This situation is ridiculous. A man refuses to admit the entirety of his actions, choosing to spend valuable resources into war so that he can escape the consequences of his action and protect his self image. A mother rejects her daughter so she can stand behind the image of a happy family, ignoring the war that is tearing people apart.
Another head hangs lowly,
child is slowly taken
And the violence caused such silence
Who are we mistaken?
I was slowly taken, slowly immersed into actions that would then lead to a war that separates hearts and wounds the innocent. A war that shatters blood and lives, leaving broken pieces everywhere.
And the violence caused such silence - who are we mistaken? How can we live shattered lives as if we don't even have a scratch on us? How did violence become silence?
It's the same old theme...
in your head, in your head they're still fighting,
with their tanks and their bombs
and their bombs and their guns
in your head, in your head, they are dying
And the war continues. The war continues because the guilty want to prove innocence. It didn't need to be this way. the violence caused silence - who are we mistaken? no matter how you look at it, the violence upon a growing child and teen is violence that should never have happened, causing silence to all aspects of life. But instead of looking at the original violence, my parents are still fighting. With their tanks and their bombs, and their bombs and their guns. Am I the only one that sees this war is mistaken?
The violence has caused such silence. Another head hangs lowly. A child is slowly taken while the guilty is still fighting. Fighting, and dying.
Fighting and dying. It didn't need to be this way. When love is the answer. When love moves to sorrow to confession to remorse. When remorse could me met with a forgiving embrace. When repentance can lead to new life. When truth sets one free.
When the violence causes silence, we must be mistaken.
